This is a chic concept cinema with six movie theaters and a capacity of up to 987 seats. The overall vibe is a little less mainstream, so it’s a nice go-to spot for film festival screenings and re-runs of vintage classics.

One of its best features is the MOViEMAXX auditorium. This facility boasts a Barco digital cinema projector that produces high-contrast 60 fps and 4K 3D content, so you can expect crisp and high-quality optical projection and effects.

Besides that, some of its cinema houses also feature RealD Ultimate Screens partnered with AuroMax. That means pristine images in both 2D and 3D, as well as multi-layered and immersive audio.

Anyway, if you want an extra-fancy cinematic experience, watch a movie at its MM Moments VIP House. It’s the first and only international art house movie channel established in Hong Kong, and it comes with premium leather recliners and 4K laser projection. VIPs can also indulge in the free flow of refreshments and drinks at the VIP lounge.

Another thing that makes this cinema special is that it’s one of the few movie theaters in the city that screens theatrical performances like the Bolshoi Ballet and National Theatre Live.

Plus, the cinema also works in collaboration with Kubrick, a famous bookstore in the city. So, if you’re still waiting for show time, you can lounge at Kubrick’s dedicated art space inside the cinema and peruse through a wide variety of curated books, movie posters, and artworks.

The K11 Art House is an established flagship theater of K11 MUSEA. This 65,000-foot aesthetic cinema complex showcases 12 theaters with more than 2,000 seats, and opened its doors to the public in 2019.

Did you know that it was the first cinema in the city that introduced the IMAX laser projection system? Its 12 theaters are also equipped with the latest audiovisual technology, 4K RGB laser projection, and a 12-channel Immersive Sound System.

In their immersive IMAX theaters, guests will be treated to films with excellent resolutions and top-notch audio quality. Plus, the VIP Houses feature recliners with plenty of leg space, so you can be comfortable and cozy even for long movies.

And guess what? Aside from screening various international blockbusters and mainstream movies, this cinema also highlights a healthy mix of alternative entertainment programs, independent films, and cultural exhibitions.

That’s why we think checking out this cinema is a cool way to broaden your film selection and refine your taste!

Speaking of taste, you can also try a range of fancy alcoholic beverages at the Sake Bar inside the cinema. Just a heads up, though: it’s advised to only grab a drink at the bar before or after watching a movie, so please drink responsibly!

This cinema may not be as grand as the others, but it definitely has its own charm. In addition to the movie theaters, it also features the famous Kubrick bookstore, a small gallery and cafe, and a dainty DVD shop.

In 1996, Broadway Cinematheque kicked off with four cinema houses and a total capacity of 640 seats. Even though the cinema complex seemed a bit out of place amidst the lineup of restaurants and stores in the Temple Street Night Market, it thrived and stood the test of time. Today, it’s the only cinema left standing in the lively Yau Ma Tei district of Kowloon.

Apart from that, it really defined its niche by showcasing curated independent films instead of just focusing on blockbuster hits and Hollywood movies. It’s a popular hub for cinephiles and movie buffs because of its diverse range of movie and film offerings.

Anyway, when the cinema houses aren’t screening indie films and blockbusters, Broadway Cinematheque usually hosts musicals, concerts, recitals, themed film festivals, and even sports events.

Trying to keep up with all this action can be a challenge, but if you’re down for it, keep up! We recommend you sign up for their BCINEPHILE membership so you can track their latest offers and score free tickets, exclusive perks, and more.

MOViE MOViE Pacific Place is fairly new in the game since it just launched in 2020. But its newbie status doesn’t make it less popular than the other big players on this list.

With six theaters that include an MM Plus and a VIP House (The Oval Office), the cinema has an overall seating capacity of 599. From Hollywood blockbusters and art house favorites to restored vintage classics and award-winning festival films, this cinema sure knows how to offer variety.

The cinema theaters here are equipped with USL 8-channel digital cinema processors, efficient laser projection technology, and RealD Precision White Screen, so moviegoers can have an immersive and high-quality cinematic experience.

And there’s more! MOViE MOViE Pacific Place also boasts an MM Plus and VIP House (The Oval Office). The MM Plus theater offers an AuroMax 3D Surround Sound System, while The Oval Office boasts a Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound System.

We recommend The Oval Office if you wish to privately screen a movie of your choice with your friends, loved ones, or even business partners. It’s furnished with modern decor and features a total of 18 reclining leather seats with two armrests each – very luxe!

Another feature that makes this VIP House special is that each seat has a handy service button that lets you order food and drinks if you start feeling peckish while caught up in the movie you’re watching. Moreover, there’s a private lounge and bar if you wish to unwind or grab a cocktail or two before or after watching a movie.

Also, if you’re in the mood to splurge a little bit, you can treat yourself to a special made-to-order and fine dining menu crafted in collaboration with the French restaurant Plat du Jour. Want to know the best part? They’ll deliver everything to your seat before the movie starts!

While tons of cinemas and box office theaters have been steadily growing in Mainland China, it’s the opposite case for Hong Kong, so the local government decided to switch things up and mandate the inclusion of cinemas for any new building projects.

As a result, Emperor Cinemas (Entertainment Building) emerged amidst the decline of the city’s film industry in 2017.

If you’re exploring the Lan Kwai Fong area and its vibrant nightlife scene, this cinema is one of the hotspots you can check out.

Whether you’re interested in classic art house movies or you want to catch the latest international or local films, you can find it all here. While this luxury cinema might not be the best pick for the masses, it made a bold move to introduce a new and dynamic side of the film industry.

Now, with six cinema houses that cover a floor area of 33,174 square feet and a total seating capacity of 883, it’s considered the largest cinema in the Tseung Kwan O area.

The highlight of this cinema is its VIP House – The Coronet, which is equipped with a Native Sony 4K Laser Projector that delivers superb and laser-driven images with exceptional contrast and sharp details.

This cinema house is deliberately designed to be small and exclusive so guests can have an intimate and immersive cinematic experience.

That’s why it’s also a great pick for romantic date nights. Just pick a couple-friendly seat in the VIP House and look forward to a relaxing, fun time while watching a movie with your special someone.

While the ticket prices here may be more expensive than the average cinema, you’ll be spoiled with first-class service, gourmet meals and drinks for VIPS, and amenities, so we think it’s worth every penny.

Whether it’s the rumble of an explosion in an action movie or the pulse-pounding jump scares of a thriller, you’ll feel like you’re right in the middle of the movie set instead of sitting comfortably as a spectator.

When it comes to authentic cinematic experiences, sometimes it’s the cult classics that steal the show, and that’s what the Golden Scene Cinema banks on.

With only four screening houses and 283 seats, the cinema opened in 2021. Believe it or not, it’s the first-ever independent movie theater in the Western District, specifically in Kennedy Town.

While this part of the city is brimming with choices in terms of local shopping and dining, it’s the exact opposite when it comes to traditional entertainment.

That’s why Winnie Tsang Lai-fun, the founder of this independent cinema, decided it was time to bring the magic of cinema to this underrated part of the city.

And guess what? The Golden Scene Cinema might not be like the usual flagship cinemas in Central, but it’s continually thriving in this district.

You see, it’s more focused on showcasing Hong Kong-made films because its main goal is to reignite people’s love and interest in locally made and produced films.

Nonetheless, you can still watch a diverse range of blockbusters, foreign independent movies, art house films, and limited releases in this cinema, so you won’t run out of choices if you just want to spontaneously catch a flick or two.

Another thing that sets it apart from other cinemas is its snacks kiosks. In typical cinemas, you’ll be offered popcorn and soda, right?

Well, here, they’ve got treats and specials that will definitely suit the taste buds of Hongkongers. We’re talking about local delights like dim sum, yu dan, and siu mai paired with a great selection of local craft beer!
