The Ultimate Cafe Crawl Guide in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Sheung Wan is a unique neighborhood in Hong Kong that has a distinct character. It knows how to seamlessly combine old and new, making it such an interesting spot to explore.

With Sheung Wan, you almost never know what you’re going to get, but one thing’s for sure – you’ll be able to discover numerous cafes all over the neighborhood if you know where to look.

And if you don’t… well, that’s where we come in. Let’s check out our top picks for cafes in this charming area!

1. Bluebird Coffee

Address: Lucky Commercial Centre, Shop B, G/f, 103 Des Voeux Rd W, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday – 8:30 AM to 6 PM

Bluebird Coffee provides a relaxing atmosphere to its patrons. We find that this is a nice place to have brunch – a simple sanctuary for a break in the middle of your busy day.

Their coffee options are more on the classic side like lattes and espresso, but they do have a few specialty drinks.

A few examples of this are marshmallow latte and peanut butter latte, both of which we recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth.

Moreover, they serve quite a few delicious dishes that are good to pair with their coffee like chocolate danish, cinnamon swirl, and many other pastries along with sandwiches, desserts, and such.

Pro tip:

One of their best selling foods is their spinach cheese lattice, which we also highly recommend. If you haven’t tried this combination, you’re sure to be a fan of it at first bite!

2. Coffee & Laundry

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/qtuYeqVKK3EePmuS7

Address: Queen’s Terrace Tower 1, 1 Queen St, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday – 9 AM to 5 PM

Coffee & Laundry, as the name suggests, is a cafe and laundromat rolled into one. That’s why as you do your laundry, you can order yourself a cup of coffee while you wait.

However, you can also just go there for the coffee. They have espresso, coffee tonic, and more. Additionally, they also have non-coffee options such as peach tea and earl gray.

Pro tip:

Their Okinawa brown sugar is so good! You should definitely give it a try. However, do note that it’s only available hot. You can order their white coffee if you’re looking to try a cold one.

3. Cupping Room

Website: https://cuppingroom.hk/locations/sheung-wan

Address: 299 Queen’s Road Central, Central, Hong Kong

Contact details: +852 2799 3398

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday – 9 AM to 5 PM

We consider the Cupping Room one of the most camera-ready cafes in Sheung Wan. The mix of black, gray, and wood accents is the perfect recipe to create this ambiance.

With that in mind, your photos from your visit to the Cupping Room would surely be a nice addition to your Instagram feed.

Anyway, aside from being extremely pleasing to the eyes, their drinks are just as satisfying. They have numerous options on their menu with a mix of classics, specialty drinks, and tea.

We love their drinks, sure, but their dishes are just as delightful.

Pro tip:

If you’re planning your visit to the Cupping Room as we speak, we suggest trying out their crab & avocado dish or the crème brûlèe french toast.

As for the coffee, you should try the espresso tonic if you like your coffee bitter. That said, if you’re looking for something sweeter, try ordering the flat white

4. Cafe Queen

Cafe Queen is an LGBT-friendly Italian cafe. Their interior is quite posh and luxurious, but also relaxing and cozy.

They only have a few coffee options on their menu like Americano, espresso, cappuccino, and such. Most items on their drink menu are actually cocktails, vodka, tequila, and the like.

This is why we think it’s a great spot if you want to start the night a bit early. As the sun goes down, you can exchange your cup of coffee for a martini.

They have numerous food items on their menu too with vegetarian choices.

Pro tip:

On the second floor, there’s also a queer bar called Cafe FLM! Check it out if you want a taste of the Hong Kong queer scene!

5. Coco Espresso

As for their food, most of what they serve are paninis/sandwiches and bagels, making Coco Espresso an ideal spot for breakfast or brunch.

Pro tip:

The chicken and avocado guacamole bagel our team ordered definitely stood out. In fact, it’s what most everyone’s favorite is! If you’re here, don’t miss out on the opportunity of ordering this delicious bagel.

6. Clean

Contact details: +852 2831 0822

Stylishly named Clean, this cafe is exactly what its name entails. Their goal is to provide a sustainable cafe that also doubles as a laundromat.

The aesthetic of their interior is light and airy. The mix of subdued greens and pinks definitely gives it a stylish and modern look.

Anyway, their single origin coffee is seasonal, so you can expect a new one several times a year. We love this idea because there’s something to look forward to every time.

Unlike most cafes, the default milk they put in their drinks is oat. They also have a dairy option that will require you to add an extra HK $2.

Pro tip:

We highly recommend their single origin. Not only do we like the element of surprise behind it because the beans are seasonal, we also like what they come up with everytime!

7. Halfway Coffee

Address: 26號 Upper Lascar Row, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Contact details: +852 2606 1160

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday – 8 AM to 6 PM

Halfway Coffee feels like your ordinary neighborhood coffee where locals go for the cozy atmosphere and friendly faces.

We fell in love with their specialty drinks – black sugar latte, longan honey latte, rose latte, and matcha latte. In case you’re wondering, yes, our team has tried it all!

Anyway, aside from those, they have the more classic options like Americano, piccolo, and different types of teas. They’re all worth the try as well.

Pro tip:

You have to order their lemon tart to go with your coffee. It’s the perfect pastry to pair with your drink! It also comes with ice cream, fresh fruit, and homemade dried fruit.

8. Friday Cafe & Wine Bar

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/Z5eZ3wNPkD8VGD566

  • Sunday – closed

Friday Cafe & Wine Bar is the place to go to if you enjoy a lively atmosphere. Easily turn your afternoon catchup with friends into a long night of drinking while staying in one place.

Their coffee is great – something you won’t usually expect in places in a cafe that doubles as a wine bar. Their coffee options include cappuccino, rose latte, piccolo latte, and caramel latte

They also serve several main dishes with hefty servings, so you won’t find yourself needing to go to another place just to appease your hunger.

Pro tip:

Our favorite food item on their menu is the roasted duck & avocado salad. It’s something we don’t see a lot, which is a total bummer. It’s best to order it while you’re here!

9. Flash Coffee

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/BBDnjKUrkR2Tiaau5

Address: Golden Centre, Shop 5, G/F, 188 Des Voeux Rd Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Contact details: +852 9573 9183

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 7 AM to 6 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday – 9 AM to 5 PM

Aside from knowing how to attract customers with their neon-yellow exterior, another thing Flash Coffee is expert in is making good quality coffee.

We love their experiments and their modern interpretation of existing drinks. Their version of Yuen Yeung (coffee and tea drink) definitely hits the spot. We also thoroughly enjoyed their Ovaltine latte and peanut butter condensed milk latte.

Pro tip:

You should try their croissant before you go. It’s crispy and flaky – the telltale signs of a good croissant!

10. Gwee Coffee & More x Tsukimi Bakery

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/LCeEDngBBJSvZphw5

Address: 1 Tai Ping Shan St, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Operating hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, & Friday – 9 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Wednesday & Thursday – closed
  • Saturday & Sunday – 11 AM to 5:30 PM

Gwee Coffee has one of the prettiest cafe exteriors not just in Sheung Wan, but in all of Hong Kong!

It’s clean yet elaborate and simple yet with minimalistic touches. Their windows carved into different sized circular patterns are truly eye-catching and unique.

Of course, their drinks are worth raving about too, like their espresso macchiato and affogato. It’s no wonder this is popular among hip locals.

Pro tip:

If you have no idea what to order but are willing to try something a bit out of pocket, we suggest trying their specialty drinks. With the rise of fizzy coffee’s popularity, it’s only natural that Gwee Coffee made their own version – the fizzling espresso. With the bitter coffee taste comes the fruity aftertaste – definitely one of their most interesting drinks.

11. Cafe Bauhinia

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/H2hD3N5jsFN9Khgk6

Address: 號地下, 23 New Market St, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Contact details: +852 2368 9339

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday – 11:30 AM to 7 PM

Despite being considered a Western cafe, Cafe Bauhinia definitely is one of the cafes in Sheung Wan with a more local touch.

It’s quaint, yet it fits in perfectly next to the stores that give off the same vibe. With that in mind, it might be easy to miss this place.

Anyway, most of the coffee options they have available are the classic ones. However, they do have a wide range of tea flavors like butterfly pea flower citron tea, butterfly pea flower vanilla milk, and osmanthus rooibos tea.

Pro tip:

Try this combination: apple crumble and bael fruit tea – thank us later!

12. Elixir

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/9wVR9pfov1bWhQ1w8

Address:  9 Mee Lun Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Operating hours:

  • Monday – 9 AM to 6 PM
  • Tuesday to Sunday – 10 AM to 6 PM

If you’re a fan of the minimalist interior, you’ll fall in love with Elixir. It’s definitely something that could appear on top of the searches on Pinterest if you look up aesthetic cafes.

With that in mind, it’s impossible to leave this cafe without taking photos, so don’t forget to bring your weapon of choice (SLR, film camera, vintage digicam, etc).

Anway, if you survey their menu, you’ll see there are a few coffee options. However, we find that it’s curated quite well, so there’s something for everyone.

There’s the honey Americano, honeycomb latte, tonic espresso, and more. They also have tea and other non-coffee options.

Pro tip:

When we asked the staff here at Happy Hongkonger what their favorite drink is at Elixir, most of them said the osmanthus infused tonic + cold brew. It’s definitely unique and different. Make sure to try it while you’re here!

13. Dandy’s Organic Cafe

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/422a7iA1xtPSTyje8

Address: 32 Upper Lascar Row, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Because of that, we always feel good after eating at Dandy’s Organic Cafe.

Moreover, with the numerous organic dishes to choose from, you’ll never get bored of what they have to offer. We’re quite sure you’ll want to return here more than once.

Pro tip:

We were blown away by how good their pastas are, especially the chicken & mushroom penne. The portions are just right, so there’s room for dessert!

14. Detour

Directions: https://goo.gl/maps/5L2XgsDTKimi23G1A

Address: G/F, 379 Queen’s Road Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Contact details: +852 3468 3600

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 7:30 AM to 6 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday – 8 AM to 6 PM

Last but not least is Detour. You can find it on the quieter side of the Sheung Wan neighborhood, so the atmosphere is guaranteed to be more relaxing and cozy than most.

We love how much the huge windows welcome the natural light, which is like the cherry on top. We especially love going there if we’re in the mood for people watching (we know you do it too!).

Anyway, they have numerous items on their menu. Their drinks include Yorkshire tea, old brew, fresh orange juice, genmaicha, and tons of other options.

Their brunch plates are worth the try as well!

Pro tip:

You should definitely order their grilled sourdough sandwiches. As a fan of sourdough, we couldn’t resist ordering this whenever we see it on the menu. In our opinion, the cheese & chive is the best. However, the smoked chicken & spinach pesto comes in a close second.
