Today, we’ll give you the best places and charities in Hong Kong where you can donate all sorts of goodies, like books you’re done reading, clothes you no longer wear, or extra food chilling in your pantry.

Christian Action is a registered charitable organization established in 1985. Its mission is to help the abandoned, displaced, and marginalized people in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
No matter the person’s race, religion, or nationality, this organization provides support and assistance to help people get back on their feet. Now, if you wish to support this cause, you can donate cash or in-kind.
In-kind donations are handled by their Green Collection Charity. What’s nice about this organization is that they’ve put up a list of addresses and pick-up services so donors no longer need to bring bulky packages to the Christian Action’s main office.
You can opt for a pick-up service or just drop off your donation package at one of their Donation Collection Points.
Another notable feature of this charity is that they don’t just give everything for free. Well, they do give free food and clothes, but what we really admire about them is that their main goal is for displaced people to get their dignity back.
You see, Christian Action provides a range of training programs to Hong Kong’s poorest and most densely populated neighborhoods.
Through this, people in the marginalized sectors can gain skills and experience to land a job and eventually support themselves and lead productive lives.
Should this not be enough, they also organize social and humanitarian projects for immigrants, foreign domestic helpers, ethnic minorities, and refugees.
Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the city. Its goal is to offer care and support to people with disabilities, disadvantaged elders, disaster survivors, marginalized minorities, children and youth, and families facing crisis.
This charity features shops popularly known as The Salvation Army Family Stores. These charity shops in Hong Kong and Macau feature a recycling program, so some of the donated goods go directly to the homeless, elderly folks living alone, and former prisoners in the city.
If you plan to donate your used but not abused items, you can drop them off at any of these collection points.
Meanwhile, other items that are fairly new and small appliances that work just fine are sold for cash at charity shops and events. The net proceeds of these shops and events go to The Salvation Army and are used as funds for community programs and social services.
Anyway, if you want to help more, you can try other donation methods, including the Monthly Donor Scheme, Cash Gift and Legacy Giving, and Fundraising.
Doing volunteer work for their programs is also a good way to support their cause. That’s why if you have free time, we recommend you participate as a volunteer at their large-scale charity events and programs.

Kids grow up so fast, and it’s not just an expression because they literally outgrow their clothes in just a span of months!
That’s why if you have toys, shoes, and clothes that your kids no longer use, it might be best to earn a few bucks and donate or sell them to platforms like Retykle.
What’s good about this platform is that it’s an easy option to consign used children’s items and maternity wear because of its free and convenient pick-up points.
Retykle also encourages people to invest in high-quality items and to care for them well so that they can be used and passed on for as long as possible.
Through this platform, you can make eco-conscious choices and help avoid fast fashion. You see, Retykle only accepts quality pre-loved items that are fit for resale, so the amount of clothes sent to recycle bins and landfills is lessened.
And guess what? For every item sold out of your donation, you’ll get a sweet 50% commission. Here’s the cherry on top – you get to pick how you want to cash in your earnings. For example, if you need some cash, you can just have it transferred straight up to your bank.
On the other hand, if you wish to do some shopping at Retykle, it’s best to turn your commission into Tyke Points. Through this, you can get a 55% commission and use it to splurge on future Retykle purchases.

Crossroads Foundation is one of the biggest non-profit organizations in Hong Kong. This NGO started as a small team that only aimed to help organizations and causes that were already in existence.
Before, the team could only gather clothing and bedding for homeless people, but when their team started to grow in size and quantity, they started supplying educational supplies, toys, furniture, and even medical provisions to disaster survivors, marginalized minorities, and war-torn cities.
They also started redistributing high-quality goods not just in Hong Kong but also in other cities worldwide. Currently, here’s a list of the most needed items that this organization supplies to their recipients:
- School stationery
- School desks and chairs
- New clothes for kids and men
- New footwear
- Laptops and computers
- Televisions
- Washing machines
- Blenders
- Refrigerators
- Rice cookers
- Small household furniture
They want people experiencing challenging moments in their lives to still lead a decent way of living by giving them the essentials, even if some of them are pre-loved.
That’s why if you have a range of pre-loved stuff that you no longer use, you can donate such items at Crossroads Foundation. Here’s the process for how you can donate goods to this foundation.
First, you need to take a picture of the items you wish to donate. Next, download the GoodCity,HK app and upload the photos you’ve taken onto the app.
Once the photos are successfully uploaded, Crossroad volunteers will review the items and update you on which items can be accepted as donations.
Lastly, you can either deliver the goods by yourself or use a transport service to send your donations at their drop-off point. Here’s a map you can follow.

Friends of the Earth is a charitable foundation established in 1983. It’s considered one of the city’s prominent green groups that focuses on the advocacy of building a healthy and sustainable environment for all.
They support government and non-government groups in Hong Kong and China that do campaigns, research, and programs dedicated to protecting and improving the local and regional environment.
One of their programs that focuses on waste reduction is the Used Clothes Recycling Program, which was launched in 2001.
If you want to donate some of your pre-loved stuff, dropping them off is such a breeze. You see, Friends of the Earth has established more than 200 collection points set up in hospitals, housing estates, and other public areas in the city.
Most of the collected items are sent to the needy, while others are resold to secondhand shops or places with high demand for pre-loved items. Proceeds made from the Used Clothes Recycling Program are used in the charity’s operation and education programs.
The charity accepts a whole range of items, but for your reference, here are the things that they don’t accept.

PathFinders was founded in 2008, and its goal hasn’t changed since then. This foundation believes that no child should ever face the world alone and deprived of essentials like clothes, supplies, healthcare, and a safe place to call home.
Their advocacy is especially focused on expectant Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) mothers who are unlawfully fired by their employers.
PathFinders offers a Nurturing Care Plan to help support MDW mothers and their kids during the critical years of early childhood development.
You can support this cause by donating essential newborn and maternity supplies for mothers and babies. Note that they only accept items in brand new condition due to manpower and storage constraints.
You can drop your donations off at Unit 11C, Worldwide Centre 123 Tung Chau Street, or at Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon. These drop-off locations are open from Mondays to Fridays (10 AM to 5 PM).

Redress

Redress is a local non-profit organization that advocates for sustainable fashion and building a circular fashion economy.
Its main goal is to support a sustainable movement for change when it comes to garment and textile manufacturing. This NGO is like sparking a fashion revolution that urges big corporations and consumers to embrace a more responsible approach to clothing and style.
“One man’s trash is another’s treasure.” Their concept is quite straightforward: accept in-kind donations, sell them for cash, and use the net proceeds to fund their programs like online employment training and educational resources and activities.
One of their prominent projects is the Takeback Program. This program lets them partner with some of the leading fashion brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Bershka, Pacific Place, and others.
These brands have dedicated collection boxes in their retail stores so customers can conveniently drop off any brand of clothes they want to donate so they can be reused, recycled, or be up for resale at the clothing drives and pop-up stores of Redress.

Food Angel

Food Angel is a food assistance and food rescue program founded by Bo Charity Foundation in 2011.
This program is literally like a rescue mission for food because the team aims to collect surplus food from different sectors of Hong Kong’s food industry so they won’t be disposed of as waste. Of course, they don’t just accept everything because each food item has to undergo strict safety protocols.
Plus, the collected food is prepared as nutritious hot meals and food packs at the charity’s central kitchen before they can be redistributed to underprivileged communities across the city.

Feeding Hong Kong is a local foodbank that provides support to the marginalized sectors of Hong Kong.
This foodbank works in partnership with local food-related restaurants, suppliers, and brands. Through this partnership, people who would like to donate surplus food items can access various collection points around town.
If you’re in the food business, Feeding Hong Kong is a good place to donate excess meals or food at the end of the day. You can reach out to their food team at this number (+852 3585 7204), and someone will update you on the pick-up arrangements.
