14 Fulfilling Volunteer Opportunities to Take in Hong Kong 

Volunteering is one of the ways to make a difference in the local community. And there’s pretty much a volunteer opportunity for just about every personality or preference.

Whether you want to dedicate your time to conserving the environment or lending a hand to abandoned dogs, there are countless opportunities for you to get involved and make a meaningful contribution.

1. Clean Air Network

Clean Air Network is committed to providing information to the public about air pollution and to create policy advice that would turn automobiles into zero emission. 

In order to do their mission, they are quite active on social media platforms. Additionally, you can also apply for their internship program and partake in projects that tackle environmental issues. 

2. HandsOn Hong Kong

HandsOn Hong Kong aims to help people on the poverty line. As the name states, they’re quite hands on with bringing aid to people. 

Each month, they offer 200 volunteer activities that back up the efforts of fellow charities in Hong Kong and the community they help. Basically, they work in the background and have several partners they support. 

As of today, there are around 45,000 that help with their causes. If you can’t be present on-site but still want to help, you can always opt to donate.

Have you ever ordered a big batch of food in a restaurant, realized you ordered too much, and wished you could give it to someone in need? 

Well, Feeding Hong Kong does something like that. 

They started their mission when they found that a piece of bread was about to be thrown out. It wasn’t expired or anything. In fact, it still looked pretty fresh. 

Fortunately, they saved it and managed to donate it to a shelter. 

Because of this fateful moment, it sparked something in them that led to this charity, which uses food waste from different sources to help feed those in need. 

4. Adoptive Families of Hong Kong

Adoptive Families of Hong Kong aims to connect people of any age to interested families from parts of the globe who would like to foster them. They also give people information, resources, and support in adoption-related issues. 

If you want to support their cause, you can volunteer by going to their website. Furthermore, you can always donate to help them reach their fundraising goal of HK $200,000. 

5. AIDS Concern

AIDS Concern has been around since 1990. Their main goal is to limit the spread of HIV by providing community resources and educational opportunities. 

The educational programs also help in decreasing discrimination and social stigma connected to HIV. Additionally, they provide testing and treatment to anyone who needs it. 

Obviously, you can volunteer to help with their programs. If you’re a company, you can also apply for their corporate partnership program by giving them a call on the number we included above. 

6. Hong Kong Girl Guides Association

If you’re a woman of any age, you might feel called to check out the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association. Their goal is to provide leadership training and personality development for both girls and young women. 

If you’re interested in volunteering to shape young minds, you have to be 21 to 65 years old. Of course, you also have to be a female who’s willing to undergo the needed training. 

7. HER Fund

HER Fund is all about supporting women’s rights and fighting for gender equality. To do so, they conduct leadership training and give grants to other grassroots organizations. 

They focus on several key issues like freedom from discrimination, violence, and poverty. Moreover, they also promote women’s civil participation.

8. Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women

The Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women, or ACSVAW for short, aims to spread awareness about sexual violence that women experience. 

They also provide crisis support, emergency contraception, sexually transmissible infection screening, and more – all for free. They also provide pro-bono lawyers who can offer free legal advice. 

9. Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation

The Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation pursues the goal of reducing breast cancer’s threat by providing patient support, educating the locals, researching, and sharing their advocacy. 

They provide breast cancer screening and even do breast cancer awareness talks. 

The different kinds of volunteers that they are looking for are those who can help with administrative tasks, translation works, fundraising events, public education activities, or patient support. 

10. Changing Young Lives Foundation

Changing Young Lives Foundation is a local charity whose goal is to help underprivileged kids in local communities as well as those in the Mainland. 

They do so by providing developmental and education programs so that the children can gain the knowledge that would help unlock doors in their lives. Moreover, they also provide food, shelter, and health care to these children in need. 

11. Make-A-Wish Hong Kong

Make-A-Wish was founded in the United States, but it has also made its way to Hong Kong in 1989. 

The goal of Make-A-Wish is to make any qualified children’s wish come true. By qualified children, they mean those who are 3 to 17 years old suffering from critical illnesses. As of the moment, they have helped around 2,000 children. 

12. Kirsten’s Zoo

Kristen’s Zoo helps abandoned animals by giving them food, shelter, and medical care. They then place the animals in foster homes, so the animals can eventually find their forever home. 

You can help this organization by adopting dogs or cats in their care and giving the animals a second life – the one they truly deserve. 

Moreover, you can also volunteer at their kennel or at their cat sanctuary. You can also donate or sponsor an animal. 

13. Sai Kung Stray Friends

Sai Kung Stray Friends consists of volunteers who want to rescue abandoned dogs. They provide the animals with medical care and shelter until the animals are adopted. 

As of the moment, they have over a hundred dogs available for adoption. You can see some of the available dogs on their website, but we suggest going straight to their shelter to see all the dogs. 

If you want to help, you can walk and wash the dogs, help socialize them to prepare for their adoption, and more. 

14. Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society

The Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society aims to conserve whales, porpoises, and dolphins. 

They also want to raise public awareness on preservation, global issues (marine pollution, captivity, etc), conservation, and such.
