How to Get to Mong Kok 

If you’re coming from Central, the best way to reach Mong Kok is via MTR. Take the Tsuen Wan line at Central Station and stop at the Mong Kok station. 

Meanwhile, if you prefer to take the bus, you can take the red minibus (RMBs)  in Lan Kwai Fong and stop at Langham Place in Mong Kok.

Best time to go to Ladies’ Market: Mid-afternoon. By this time, most stalls are already set up, and the crowd is just starting to gather, so you can still freely roam around. 

Ladies’ Market is perhaps the most popular street market in Tung Choi, Mong Kok. And don’t be misled by its name because this 1-kilometer of open stalls and tiny boutiques isn’t just for the ladies. 

They say you won’t be able to leave the Ladies Market empty-handed because here, you can find almost every type of cheap clothes, shoes, souvenirs, accessories, bags, electronics, and so much more. 

Moreover, you can also find a range of coffee shops and food stalls in the area, so you can snag a quick bite after your shopping spree. 

Also, here’s a pro tip – try haggling before you buy anything because vendors usually charge at least 20% higher, especially for tourists.

Sneakers Street is a hotspot for sneakerheads and streetwear enthusiasts who are on the hunt for limited-edition and special-edition sneakers as well as the latest shoe releases. 

What we like most about Sneakers Street is its wide variety of products. It’s a haven of shoes and more shoes, ranging from cheap to splurge-worthy finds. 

This street market features more than 100 retail shops running on both sides of Fa Yuen Street and the adjacent roads of Shantung Street, Nelson Street, Soy Street, and more.

Some of the popular sports brands you can find here are Puma, Nike, New Balance, and Adidas. If you’re not that picky, you can also stumble upon branded limited-edition overruns straight from the production plants in China. 

Langham Place

Langham Place, a bustling 15-story shopping mall in Mong Kok, boasts more than 200 shops that mostly focus on youth fashion. You can find a lot of local and Japanese fashion label shops inside this mall.  

Compared to other shopping malls in the area, Langham Place has longer operating hours, so you can take your time to shop for the best deals.

Fa Yuen Street

T.O.P Shopping Mall is a relatively new mall in Mong Kok, but this doesn’t mean that it still hasn’t kept up with the district’s vibrant shopping scene. 

It’s connected to Argyle Centre, so if you’re already inside it, just cross the bridge on the second floor and explore other establishments. Convenient right? 

Most of the shops here are hip boutiques and novel concept retail chains showcasing a mix of quirky and kawaii products. Of course, you can also find a few flagship stores and limited edition pop-up stores inside.  

Flower Market

If you’re a certified plant parent, you’ll have a field day exploring this market because it features a vast array of blooms and potted plants, including sunflowers, roses, orchids, succulents, bonsais, and even venus fly traps. 

Here’s a pro tip to remember – don’t buy everything at the first shop you visit. Well, it can be tempting to just buy the first thing you see, but it’s better to walk around the flower market so you can pick from a variety and get a better price and bargain.  

Tips for Shopping in Mong Kok 

  1. Be mindful of your surroundings.

Night markets and flea markets in Mong Kok are often busy, swamped with people, and distracting, making this area the ideal workplace for pickpockets. 

Stay alert, especially when going in a crowded area, and make sure to keep your important belongings on the front of your body. Leave all your flashy bling at home! 

  1. Be friendly when haggling. 

Don’t be afraid to put your haggling skills into practice when in Mong Kok. 

At Mong Kok’s markets, the price of pretty much everything is totally negotiable, so don’t be pressured to settle for the first price the vendor quotes you. Just flash them a kind smile and propose a reasonable discount. Keep your tone friendly, but be firm when you’re haggling over a price. 

Don’t worry if the vendor doesn’t want to budge about their final price. Just smile and find another store – chances are, they’ll ask you to go back and have a change of heart. 

  1. Come early if you don’t like big crowds. 

If you are quickly overwhelmed by large crowds, we suggest you come early or during the opening hours of the markets you plan to visit. 

By getting there when every stall is just getting ready to roll, you can beat the crowd frenzy and have more time to leisurely stroll around the markets and stalls. 

  1. Just say “no, thanks” when you’re not interested. 

As you stroll through Mong Kok, expect to be bombarded with calls and offers from eager sellers. While it might feel a tad annoying at first, remember that these sellers are just hustling to make a living. 

That’s why if you’re not really interested in the items they’re offering, a simple and friendly “No, thank you” can work wonders. 

Another pro tip you can try is avoiding eye contact. You see, vendors interpret eye contact as a sign of interest. So, if you don’t want to buy an item, avoiding eye contact can help deter aggressive sales pitches. 

  1. Remember that knock-off products are everywhere. 

This might sound obvious, but that jaw-dropping bargain price on a Gucci wallet or other “designer item” you stumbled upon at Mong Kok is probably too good to be true. It’s essential to remember that knock-off products are almost everywhere. 

While some knock-offs can really pass as a convincing replica, you can easily spot fakes with dead giveaway tags like Louis Buitton, The North Fake, and of course, “Nothing is Possible” with Abidas. 

Nonetheless, buying counterfeit goods is definitely at the discretion of the customer. If you plan to take the plunge, do your research and always weigh the pros and cons of buying knock-offs.

Ming Court, a Michelin-starred restaurant, is renowned for serving a delectable array of refined Cantonese classics alongside other flavorsome dishes. It’s a flagship restaurant inside the luxurious Cordis Hotel, so you can recharge here for a bit before you continue your shopping spree. 

Just like its name, the dining experience here matches the restaurant’s grandeur theme – the Ming Dynasty. The place is adorned with vintage pottery and decor, and the signature dishes are fit to be served to kings. 

Make sure to book ahead to get good seats, and don’t forget to try their Crispy Fried Crab, Dim Sum, and Supreme Honey-Barbecued Pork Loin. 

Di King Heen

If you’re shopping around Central Mong Kok, we suggest you check out Di King Heen inside the Royal Plaza Hotel. It’s an expansive restaurant with big tables that can accommodate a whole family or a big group of people touring around Mong Kok. 

Aside from classic and staple dishes, Di King Heen is also known for its innovative take on Cantonese dishes. 

It’s a good spot for tourists who wish to get a taste of Hong Kong’s popular dishes and set menus. We highly recommend their Peking Duck Deluxe Set Menu and Drunken Rooster.

The Madhouse Taproom

This Carnival-themed bar features more than 20 local craft beers and draft beers, as well as various bottle selections. Some of their sought-after offerings are their limited-edition dark beers and aged whiskeys. 

What we like most about this cozy gastropub is that it’s nothing too fancy, and the music choices throughout the night will not bust your eardrums, so you can totally have a chill and relaxing time here.

The Ale Project is like the noisier and livelier version of The Madhouse Taproom. In this beer hall, patrons and tourists alike swarm during the weekends, so it’s a nice spot to meet new friends. 

This beer joint runs 18 taps of craft beer, and half of these are sourced from local brewers. Moreover, their imported taps are great too! The Venusian Pale Ale from New Zealand is highly recommended by the staff. 

Meanwhile, their new food menu perfectly complements their fresh brews. Don’t miss out on these must-tries – Lap Yuk Mac & Cheese and Duck Egg Yolk Golden Fries.
