Victoria Park Skating Rink

Location: Viking Garden Block A, 42 Hing Fat St, Causeway Bay
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday – 7 AM to 11 PM
Contact details: +852 2890 4355
Soak up some sun and enjoy the fresh air at Victoria Park Skating Rink! This outdoor roller skating rink is a hotspot for many skating enthusiasts because it’s free and you can come and go as you please.
However, we only recommend this spot for people who have already mastered the basic roller skating skills or at least have a grasp on how to stop and fall properly.
During peak hours, many skaters of different skill levels gather here, and some sections of the rink have obstacles, so it can be hard if you’re a total newbie skater.
King’s Road Playground

Location: King’s Rd, North Point
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday – 7:30 AM to 11 PM
Contact details: +852 2564 2673
If you’re not a fan of the usual crowd in Victoria Park Skating Rink, King’s Road Playground’s skating rink is also a good spot. It may not be as spacious, but you’ll certainly have fewer skaters to collide with because the playground’s the highlight of this place.
It’s an excellent spot for beginners because the rink features a smooth and flat concrete floor with supporting bars around it. Besides that, it’s not that wide-open, which is actually good if you’re learning how to balance, glide, and stop.
Safety Tips to Remember When Roller Skating
- Wear proper protective gear.
Don’t skip safety gear! Here are the ones we found most useful in our own skating:
- Helmets
- Knee pads
- Elbow pads
- Wrist guards
- Warm up properly.
Like any other physical sport or activity, a simple warm-up can help you before you start. We found gentle stretching exercises for about 5-10 minutes to be sufficient!
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
A public skating rink is a bit like an intersection for cars, so it’s essential to be aware of what’s happening around you.
Before you go full speed or suddenly change directions, look both ways and check for potential hazards like obstacles or skaters you might collide with.
- Skate within your ability.
Curb your enthusiasm. Skating too fast or trying fancy tricks as a beginner is one of the best ways to get injured – or worse, injure someone else. Happens more than you think!
- Learn techniques on how to safely stop on roller skates.
Master how to stop completely before everything else! Trust us, you’ll be glad later.
That’s why for your next roller skating practice, look up and practice these two commonly used stopping techniques – T-stop and Plow Stop.
