Situated on the rooftop of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, the Origami Kids Cafe doubles as an indoor restaurant and playground specially created for especially for families. 

They serve delicious Jiangsu and Zhejiang dishes with a twist created by a Michelin star restaurant chef. 

Inside their playzone is a sandpit, a reading area, a jungle gym, and other play areas meant to stir a child’s interest and creativity.

Tearapy is a delightful cafe beloved to locals. Their indoor space feels airy and fresh with tall windows that invite a generous amount of sunlight. Needless to say, every corner of Tearapy calls for a quick snapshot for your Instagram feed. 

Anyway, they have copious amounts of food items on their menu. However, the one a lot of people are crazy for is their dirty brown sugar pearl milk. Try it!

Aside from their best seller, we also recommend getting their purple sweet potato milk smoothie and strawberry four seasons tea. 

7. Meraviglia Bar e Ristorante

If Italian food made with organic ingredients sounds appealing to you, you’ll love Meraviglia Bar e Ristorante. 

Aside from the usual pizza and pasta at Italian restaurants, they also have grilled dishes like grilled N.Z. lamb rack in gravy sauce and angus rib eye in porcini sauce both served with baked potato and vegetables. 

Ever since trying their food, it’s become a staple on the family dining table during special occasions for most of us at Happy Hongkonger. 

Anyway, the ambiance inside is quite relaxed. Surprisingly, they have a play area in their restaurant so kids can play in a pleasant environment. 

Pro tips:

  • Here are their must-try dishes as recommended by the staff from Happy Hongkonger: orecchiette with homemade sausage and organic arugula, grilled organic salmon filet, and pizza marinara. 
  • Moreover, don’t miss out on their homemade cheesecake!

8. Tree Cafe

Tree Cafe is a place where you’d meet your loved ones on a chill weekend morning. That said, it’s also a place you’d be likely to stay until brunch because of their yummy sandwiches, salads, and pastries!

By the way, right beside it is Tree Cafe’s eco-friendly furniture store – we recommend checking it out. 

Pro tip:

While a lot of the dishes we tried were great, their spinach mushroom quiche really took the top spot! Order it while you’re here for the best experience. 

9. Fleur de Sel

Fleur de Sel is one of the few places you can get authentic French crêpes in Hong Kong. 

Ordering here is usually a choice between sweet crepes or savory galettes. To choose which one’s better is a challenge, so we suggest deciding this one for yourself!

Pro tip:

  • Order the la fermière if you’re having a hard time choosing the perfect order. It’s a savory galette with cheese, potatoes, bacon, and fresh tomatoes. Being made with only familiar ingredients, it’s hard not to go crazy over this one. 

10. Yum Cha

Yum Cha is one of the famous places to get quality dim sum for the whole family to enjoy. Don’t be surprised if you find your kids begging you to go back here. 

After all, because of their cute colorful buns (some of which are even designed with lovable characters), it’s a great place for kids to enjoy local cuisine without MSG.  

They have numerous stores all over Hong Kong, by the way. However, the Central would probably be the most famous one. 

Pro tip:

Our recommended dish is the BBQ piggy bun. Designed to look like piglets, these buns are basically cha siu bao with a cute, unexpected cartoonish twist that kids will love. 

11. Pizza Express

Pizza Express serves quality pizzas that have garnered attention from different parts of the globe. They serve classic pizzas like margherita and Sicilian sausage and spinach and also have exciting flavors available such as peking duck (spiced duck, chili flakes, spring onion, cucumber, mozzarella, and hoisin sauce.)

By the way, you can even bring your kid here during their birthday for a pizza-making birthday bash! You can invite about 20 people. Adults can come too!

Pro tip:

Aside from their pizzas, we found that their salads are worth trying out! While everything’s good and highly recommended, the nourish bowl is our favorite. 

12. Fiamma

Since the Italians are a family-oriented bunch, a lot of Italian restaurants serve food family-style. For that, Fiamma is one of your best options. 

Examples of their most sought-after dishes are the farmer’s breakfast (eggs, avocado, chickpea hummus, mixed leaves, portobello mushroom, and grilled tomatoes), quattro formaggi pizza, and penne all’arrabbiata. 

Pro tip:

They also have vegan and vegetarian options. Just ask the waiter for their green Italian menu. 

13. Zaks

As for the inside of the restaurant, it provides a more intimate experience. They also have a space where children can play, and a free ice cream machine. 

Oh, and if your family can’t decide on what food they want, there are plenty of cuisines available here like Thai, Chinese, Western, and more. 

Pro tips:

  • For adults, we highly recommend the tequila chicken burger. It’s definitely one of the more interesting unique options they have. 
  • For the kids, we recommend checking out the kids menu! All meals are perfect for those aged 12 and below. 

14. MeokBang BBQ Kidzone

MeokBang BBQ Kidzone is a great place to eat Korean cuisine in Hong Kong. Since it would be sin to eat Korean BBQ all alone, bring the family along! 

The kid-friendly feature at this restaurant is the giant ball pit. Moreover, you can rent a Hanbok for everyone in the family to try for free.

Not sure what to order? Try the assorted meat set instead! That way, you’ll know which ones you enjoy most for your next order!

15. Mr. Tree

Mr. Tree is most famous for being one of the most child-friendly restaurants in Hong Kong. It features an indoor playroom that has a giant ball pit, a small climbing wall, swings, and more. It’s every child’s dream, for sure. 

Of course, their dishes are also worth raving about. They serve food items like salads, soups, and steaks. They even have a children’s menu that is quite healthy. 

Pro tip:

To avoid huge crowds, we recommend going here during a weekday.

16. Fini’s

Fini’s is an Italian American restaurant that incorporates Hong Kong flavors in its menu, making it unique yet familiar to every local. 

A lot of their dishes have sharing options, so this restaurant is highly recommended for large groups. A few examples of their must-try’s are the typhoon shelter crab linguine (fresh blue crab, Hong Kong fermented black bean, pickled chili, and green onion) and the margherita pizza.   

Pro tip:

We believe that a visit to Fini’s wouldn’t be complete without ordering spaghetti with red sauce and the buffalo chicken deluxe pizza. 

17. Crêpe Delicious

True to its name, Crêpe Delicious serves mouthwatering crêpes (and gelato) that are highly recommended for families looking to indulge in a sweet dessert or a light savory meal. 

Most of the flavors they offer are quite unique, so you won’t see them in other places. 

Pro tip:

  • If you like to try their sweet crêpe, our top recommendation would be the sunday crepe. It’s made with bananas, strawberry, gelato, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. 
  • As for their savory crêpe, our favorite would be the tuna tango filled with homemade tuna salad, red onions, tomato, and mozzarella cheese. 

18. Baumhaus Wan Chai

More of a playground than a restaurant, this place has a coffee lounge where adults can interact while drinking lattes and munching on some roasted chicken marinara wrap

So, why did we put them here? Because surprisingly, their dishes are quite good. They also have a kid’s menu so you can order your little one a healthy meal after a day of playing!
