The 11 Best German Restaurants in Hong Kong When Wurst Comes to Wurst

When people come to Hong Kong, nobody really goes, “Wow, I’d love to have some schweinshaxe right now!”

Except for me.

See, I found out on a recent trip to Munich that I love German food like schweinshaxe (pork knuckle). But I knew when I flew home that finding German restaurants in Hong Kong would be tough.

Fortunately, I managed to drag—er, I mean convince the whole team to help! From beloved German hot dog joints to cozy restaurants for couples, you’ll find it in our list today. Who knew Hong Kong has something more to offer than dim sum and roasted goose?

Brotzeit German Beer Bar and Restaurant – OP Mall

Contact Details: +852 2781 1988

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 12:00 PM -12:00 AM

Our team recently visited one of the best German restaurants in Hong Kong, and it turned out to be a hidden gem in Tsuen Wan West!

It was comfy, tidy, and very relaxed. Although we missed the happy hour, the beer selection was still impressive, with rich flavors that were worth the higher price.

As for the fare, we ordered the Cheese Sausage, Nachos, and the Schweinshaxe – all of which we loved and enjoyed. The side dishes were just as good, especially the well-seasoned potatoes and roasted tomatoes.

King Ludwig offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and has a lively feel, thanks to the live music performances that you can catch on occasion.

Of course, we couldn’t miss trying the Schweinshaxe, which was absolutely delicious with its crispy skin and tender meat. While some of the other dishes were just okay, the generous portions made up for it.

The beer selection was also fantastic, with options ranging from light, refreshing flavors to rich, strong wheat beers. Plus, all the staff are dressed in traditional German attire!

Biergarten German Bar & Restaurant

Address: Shop 1, G/F, 5 Hanoi Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

Contact Details: +852 2721 2302

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Biergarten has a charming vibe with some nice decorations, even if it doesn’t exactly mimic a traditional German beer garden. The restaurant even offers Glühwein (spiced wine) for that cozy, authentic German feel.

The beer selection was excellent, including Benediktiner Weißbier on tap and various bottled options, making it a great spot for beer lovers. As for food, the  Currywurst was great and the fries were hands down among the best we’ve had in Hong Kong.

While the pretzels were a bit disappointing without the usual salt and crispness, the Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce was a sweet surprise. But overall, the experience was great – and good enough to have us visit a second time!

What’s great about this place is that it combines a cozy atmosphere with friendly service, making it a great spot for both casual dining and special occasions. And it’s a Michelin-starred restaurant!

The menu offered more than just the usual pork and sausages, as you might expect. We particularly enjoyed the Spätzle, which was delightfully chewy, and the tender pork belly that melted in our mouths.

Desserts were a highlight as well, with the classic Black Forest cake standing out for its rich flavors. The Strawberry Vanilla cake was also amazing but that’s if you prefer something sweeter and more flavorful for dessert.

Das Bier won our hearts with their delicious meals. For starters, we had the Crispy German Pork Knuckle and it was a hit. The pork was tender on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside, which is exactly what we’re looking for.

The Rib-eye Steak and Carbonara were just as impressive, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The dishes were served in generous portions, making them great for sharing among friends (although I can probably finish them alone!).

One of our standout favorites was the German Sausage Platter, which was just perfect for two people. The sausages, especially the Cheese Sausage on Noodles, were absolutely delicious and full of rich, savory flavors.

German Road Restaurant

What really stood out at German Road was the attention to detail. They went above and beyond, offering our steak cooked exactly how we like it, and even checking if our drinks hit the sweet spot. It’s those little touches that make all the difference!

In terms of atmosphere, this place nailed it. With soft, romantic tunes playing in the background and just the right amount of lighting, it felt like the perfect spot for a relaxed evening with friends or a special someone. It wasn’t overcrowded or noisy, so we enjoyed our meal in peace.

Finally, their staff was lovely, including the manager who was welcoming and attentive. Even though we only ordered a few dishes, like Stir-fried Mushrooms and Tiger Prawns alongside their version of Schweinshaxe, they treated us like VIPs!

Operating hours: Monday – Saturday: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Discovering this hidden gem of a German restaurant was a stroke of luck for me and my team. In fact, it’s tucked away downstairs next to a lively German bar, which makes it easy to make if you’re in the area.

The star of the show here is undoubtedly the food. From the hearty Pork Knuckle to the irresistible Raclette Cheese, every dish is a winner. And the sausages are absolutely unbeatable – they actually reminded me of the ones we’ve had in Germany.

We also tried the Herb-crusted Lamb Rack, which was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked to perfection. And for the adventurous, the snails were a tasty surprise – it’s an acquired taste, so order at your own discretion!

Lecker’s Kitchen

Address: Hong Kong, Tai Po, Chui Lok St, 11

Contact Details: +852 6999 7874

Operating hours: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM

The Schweinshaxe here at Lecker’s Kitchen is good, with crispy skin that’s just perfect, not too chewy and not too salty. It’s actually the perfect texture we’re looking for, though it might be too salty for most tongues.

But let’s talk about the real star of the show – the beer selection. Who can resist pairing slow-cooked beef tenderloin and crispy pork knuckles with ice-cold beer?

Contact Details: +852 2624 4002

Operating hours: Monday – Saturday: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM | Sunday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM

German hot dogs, anyone? Hot Dog Link is a beloved spot for many Hong Kongers – it’s practically a must-eat memory for anyone who grew up around here.

With 22 types of sausages to choose from, you’re spoiled for choice. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can add toppings like meat sauce or cheddar cheese for a little extra.

The Chives and Pork Sausage Hot Dog Set was amazing, especially with the sautéed cheese onions and mustard sauce. The set meal comes with hash browns or fries and a drink, which is enough for a casual meal out – but maybe not for a date out though!

Oma’s Kitchen

Address: Shop 4-5, Level 1 Beach Commercial Complex, Park Island, Ma Wan, Hong Kong

Contact Details: +852 3446 1116

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Oma’s Kitchen’s Pork Knuckle and Sausage Platter definitely screams authentic German cuisine (perfect for groups too!). While the spätzle satisfied our cravings, we couldn’t help but wish for some Bretzeln to complete the experience.

We also tried the German Roast Chicken and Grilled Pork Chop with Fries. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and juicy – highly recommend! But unfortunately, the pork chop fell short since it was a bit tough and probably overcooked.

Thankfully, it’s redeemed by the restaurant’s location. especially with the stunning night view of the beach and Tsing Ma Bridge.

Pork Knuckle House

Contact Details: +852 2253 1588

Operating hours: Monday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

We kicked off our meal at Pork Knuckle House with their must-try Signature Crispy Salted Pork Knuckles. They were massive and really flavorful – the crispy outer layer gave way to tender, delicious meat.

They also serve generous portions of Smoked Salmon and Cucumber Salad with Tahini Sauce. And to wash it all down, you can try their own scented tea series, including the refreshing Roselle Soda and the soothing Honey Pomelo.

The only downside though is that it’s a bit of a trek from the Tai Wai MTR. Good thing the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with sunny vibes outside and a cozy, warm atmosphere indoors.
