Kennedy Town is known for a cozy vibe that most don’t really expect from our city. Aside from that, what puts it on the map is the abundance of chic cafes and international restaurants that have sprouted here over the years.
That’s why when someone is looking for a great place to eat, we immediately point people towards Kennedy Town!
Anyway, we’ll take you through our favorite places to eat or have a drink in the area today. Let’s start with a nice place for a cuppa.

Little Cove Espresso is a lovely coffee shop in the heart of Kennedy Town. It serves not only delicious coffee, but also delectable dishes that your taste buds would very much fancy.
They have vegan options, gluten free options, and they’re also quite vegetarian friendly.
They have numerous selections on their menu such as breakfast bowls, sandwiches, smoothie bowls, desserts, and of course, coffee.
This includes organic scrambled eggs served with sourdough rye bread that will make you feel the delicious crunch in every bite. Moreover, they also have scrambled tofu, French toast, custard Danish, among many others.
As you can see, most options are perfect for breakfast or brunch!
A lot of locals know and love this place because of its charming, Instagram-worthy interior which attracts customers who also want to dine in a chic setting.
Pro tips:
- If you’re looking for something refreshing yet filling, you have to try their red dragon bowl. It’s a mix of banana, dragon fruit, coconut milk, buckwheat granola, coconut, and strawberries.
- However, if you want something on the savory side, we suggest getting the shakshuka. It has 2 poached eggs, spiced tomato and capsicum sauce, feta, and aleppo pepper served with sourdough rye.

First Boy Coffee is another delightful coffee shop in the cozy Kennedy Town neighborhood.
The coffee flavors they offer are the classic ones – black, white, cold brew, affogato, drip coffee, and such. For non-coffee drinkers, they also have something for you like peach mint tea and lemon honeydew green tea.
Most of the items on their menu are coffee; however, they also have some pastries like cakes, bagels, and cookies. Moreover, they also have other dessert options like pancakes.
Pro tip:
If you’re there in the morning, a little after 10:30, you have to try their egg waffle! You can choose from 3 of their available flavors – earl gray, orange and salted caramel, banana and chocolate, or pork floss and mayonnaise.

Yin Kee Desserts is one of the places we frequent at Kennedy Town especially if we’re feeling a bit nostalgic.
Considering its name, don’t expect you’d find cakes and ice creams. Rather, they serve Hong Kong style desserts like sweet potato in ginger soup with taro balls, beancurd stick with egg soup, and such.
Pro tip:
Our favorite thing to get here is the golden milk custard. It’s really delicious!
4. Try Japanese pastries at Châteraisé

Châteraisé is a Japanese pastry chain that made all its way to Hong Kong.
In case you didn’t know, the Japanese are quite famous for their desserts. Most of the Japanese desserts we’ve tried over the years are always not too sweet, yet still quite flavorful.
Moreover, more often than not, they like focusing on how they present their food, so you’d see that they have a lot of cakes that almost look too cute to eat!
Châteraisé is no different. The cuteness of their cakes is what will attract you, but the taste is what will keep you coming back.
Pro tip:
They also have seasonal flavors, so make sure to check in from time to time to see what new stuff they came up with!
5. Enjoy premium cakes at Maxim’s Cakes

Another great find in the Kennedy Town neighborhood is Maxim’s Cakes.
Most of their cakes are designed with a lot of precision, so you’d see the artistry that comes with it even in the simplest designs.
We find their cakes perfect for special events because not only are they a bit expensive, but they also have a premium feel to them because of the presentation.
They offer a lot of variety, some of which are for specific occasions like baby celebrations, parties, and weddings.
They also categorize their cakes based on how it’s designed like cartoon-looking cakes, lion dance cakes, and traditional cakes.
Aside from their whole cakes, they also have several dessert options like mini egg roll, chocolate cake, taro cake, and such.

6. Indulge in Taiwanese dishes at Yuan is Here

Yuan is Here is quite a small restaurant, but it’s so popular among locals and visitors that it’s almost always busy. With that in mind, don’t be surprised when you see people lining up outside.
Just a heads up though: prepare to share some tables with strangers, just like most restaurants in Hong Kong.
Anyway, what makes Yuan is Here so popular? Well, this authentic Taiwanese restaurant serves delicious dishes for an affordable price.
Considering the quality and taste of their food, you’d expect it to be a lot more pricey than it is.
That’s Hong Kong for you! You’ll be able to get cheap, yet delicious meals wherever you go.
Pro tip:
If it’s your first time, we highly recommend getting their signature dish – the minced pork on rice.
7. Experience NYC pizzeria at Alvy’s

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without Alvy’s. It’s a New York-inspired pizzeria so expect to be transported to NYC the moment you step inside.
This is another one that’s quite popular among locals and tourists. After all, who doesn’t like pizza?
Anyway, their pizzas are divided into two categories: famous pizzas and classic pizzas. Under the famous pizzas are their top chef recommendations which include bak gwei (gruyere bechamel, char siu pork, mozzarella geung yeong).
As you would expect from their classic pizzas, it includes the well-loved pizza flavors like pepperoni, four cheese, and sausage & mushroom to name a few.
Pro tip:
If you’re an American bourbon fan, you’d like this place even more. They have the most extensive collection of American bourbon out of all restaurants in Hong Kong!
8. Savor French cuisine at Bistro Du Vin

Bistro Du Vin is a lovely French restaurant in the Kennedy Town neighborhood. The interior is similar to the usual French bistro so the restaurant’s authentic up to the smallest detail.
If you happen to find yourself in Kennedy Town, you shouldn’t miss this.
They have a lot of choices in their menu, so you might find yourself a bit overwhelmed, but in a good way because they all seem delicious.
They have several main dishes like lobster linguine and roasted whole chicken with gratin dauphinois. Moreover, they also have a great selection of starters like warm ox tongue salad and bayonne ham plate.
To top it all off, Bistro Du Vin also has a spectacular ambiance, which we find perfect for intimate gatherings.
You’ll likely find yourself coming back here because there are tons of dishes that are worth the try.
Pro tip:
Believe it or not, their cakes are one of the favorite things we ordered at Bistro Du Vin. Make sure you don’t miss it when you swing by!
9. Get acquainted with Thai dishes at Thai Ros Zab

Thai Ros Zab is a Thai restaurant in Kennedy Town that serves a lot of popular dishes from the Southeast Asian country.
To give you a bit of an overview, they have several curry options, noodles, appetizers, and more.
Whether you’re new to Thai cuisine or you’ve had it more times than you can count, you’ll certainly enjoy eating at Thai Ros Zab.

When our team at Happy Hongkonger ate here, we tried several dishes to see what the best one was. The vote was unanimous – their Thai hainan chicken takes the crown. See it for yourself!

For a mix of American and European cuisine, check out Chill and Grill to get the best of both worlds.
Their menu is quite interesting because they offer a lot of variety. Under their main course, they have Chicken Fajitas, US prime striploin, ricotta & spinach tortellini with parma ham in black truffle cream, and more.
Because of this, they have something for everyone, especially those who are adventurous with their food choices.
Pro tip:
If you’re getting an add on to your main dishes, you should get either the truffle fries or Australian blue mussels with spicy tomato sauce.
11. Discover a hidden gem at Kyo Japanese

Kyo Japanese is another good one to try if you’re in Kennedy Town.
It’s not quite well known like the others, so we consider this a hidden gem that more people should know about.
Their authentic dishes are so ridiculously great that it’s almost impossible to just come here once.
Even though the dishes they offer are quite plain, they put a fantastic spin to it by using a method of their own. Moreover, their ingredients are quite fresh, which you’ll notice as soon as you take a bite.
Pro tip:
Our favorite one from Kyo Japanese is the deluxe fatty tuna rice bowl. You should definitely try this one at least once.
12. Taste new flavors at 11 Westside

If you’re in the hunt for something earthy and savory that utilizes a lot of herbs and chili in their dishes, we believe Mexican cuisine is what you should go for.
Fortunately, Hong Kong almost never runs out of restaurants that give you a taste of plates from all over the globe.
With that in mind, we recommend 11 Westwide in Kennedy Town.
Their menu consists of starters, tacos, as well as savory and sweet dishes, most of which we’ve already tried. Based on a lot of the staff’s reaction at Happy Hongkonger, this one’s the real deal.
That’s why a lot of us here have 11 Westwide written on our top restaurants in Hong Kong.
To allure you more into trying this out, here’s a fun fact! The head chef is Chef Edras Ochoa, the one from Netflix’s The Final Table.
Pro tip:
We find this the perfect restaurant to go to for a night out since a lot of dishes are great to pair with alcohol. Moreover, the overall ambiance is perfect for it.
13. Dabble in local dishes at Tai Hing Roast

Everywhere you go in Hong Kong, it’s quite likely that you’ll come across a restaurant that serves char siew, roast goose, roast pork, and such. If it’s your first time in Hong Kong, trying out these dishes is a must!
If you find yourself in Kennedy Town, you should check out Tai Hing Roast. They have all the meals that one should try as a Hong Kong first timer.
Moreover, the dishes would surely leave a nice lasting impression because they’re quite delicious.
That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t try this restaurant if you’ve tasted the Hong Kong classics though! It’s a must-try for everyone.
Pro tip:
Soy chicken is our favorite dish from Tai Hing Roast. It’s very savory, yet not too salty like what you might find in other places.
14. Order from the best British Restaurant at Shoreditch

For both modern and traditional British dishes, we recommend Shoreditch in Kennedy Town. This restaurant provides a posh, yet laid back atmosphere, making it the perfect ambiance for lunches with the co-workers or with friends you haven’t seen in years.
According to Loop, a local news site, they are ranked as the best British restaurant in Hong Kong. This didn’t surprise us at all because everytime we visited Shoreditch, the quality of their food and services were very much consistent.
Our favorite things to order are the great British breakfast, crab & tiger prawn benedict, and truffle impossible burger.
However, there are a lot of good options to try so feel free to go rogue and over whatever catches your eye!
Pro tip:
If you’re feeling luxurious, you definitely shouldn’t miss out on their flame grilled steaks! Most of them are grass-fed beef which makes it more nutritious and lean.
