The 10 Best Fine Dining Restaurants in Hong Kong

Looking for an elevated dining experience? As luck would have it, one of the nice things about our city is that there’s no shortage of fine dining options: you can easily try French and Italian dishes and even unique fusions that you might not see elsewhere.

To help you make sense of your options, we created this list of best fine dining restaurants so you’ll know the best spots worth trying.

1. Restaurant Petrus

ADDRESSLevel 56, Pacific Place, Supreme Ct Rd, Central, Hong Kong
CONTACT DETAILS+852 2820 8590
OPERATING HOURSTuesday – Sunday 12 PM – 10:30 PM

On the lookout for some quality French cuisine? We suggest Restaurant Petrus to satisfy your craving.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that when we ate here, we felt like royalty. It’s not just because of the world-class quality service that they provide, but it’s a big part of it!

It’s also because of their interior decor. If there’s one word to describe it, we’d have to go for elegant

From the beautifully laid out drapes of the curtains to the finely upholstered stylish seats, you can tell they planned the decor down to the last detail. Now, that’s the kind of effort we like seeing!

Of course, the sophisticated interior isn’t the only thing to talk about. This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a great selection of exquisite dishes that would make anyone’s day (or year, honestly!).

As if that’s not enough, the view here is spectacular! You’ll get to see a panoramic view of Hong Kong while you sip on the finest wine.

You can probably tell by now that we enjoyed our time here. Honestly, our first time dining here surely won’t be the last.

Pro tips:

  • They have a vegetarian menu, so be sure to ask for that if it’s something you prefer.
  • Our favorite from their signature dinner menu is the Spanish Red Prawn. It’s so juicy and fresh – you can really tell it’s high-quality.

Our first impression when we got inside Arbor was that the interior was lush, modern, and stylish. Despite that, it’s also a bit more laid-back than other fine dining restaurants in the city, which we believe is just part of its charm because it’s warm and inviting.

In other words, you get a sense that they’re not trying too hard to offer the most extravagant experience through frills and furbelows. That’s fine, as we figured they would rather speak through their dishes.

And on that note, being a two-Michelin star restaurant, they don’t really have anything to prove. With us being curious foodies, however, we wanted to see what the fuss was about.

We were able to try out their different menus, pick out favorites from each one, and added them to our pro tips below. But before you proceed, we want to touch on a few details that made our experience worth it.

First, we thought it was impressive how they incorporated fresh Japanese ingredients into French cuisine. It certainly put a unique yet delightful spin to it.

Second, we also enjoyed the presentation of each course very much. The artistry from the plating really shined through, making it not just about food, but also about the overall experience.

Pro tips:

  • Make sure to opt for a smart-casual outfit when you dine in.
  • To our surprise, we loved their bread and soy sauce butter. We highly recommend it if you want to taste a unique spin to baked goods. We heard a lot of other people raving about it on our visit too (yes, we chatted up the people at nearby tables!).
  • We really enjoyed their scallops with a white miso base as well. However, we think that it’s the type of flavor that people may easily get sick of if there’s too much of it. It’s a good thing the portion was just right.

3. Estro

ADDRESS2/F, 1 Duddell St, Central, Hong Kong
CONTACT DETAILS+852 9380 0161
OPERATING HOURSSunday and Monday Closed
Tuesday – Saturday 12 – 4 PM, 6:30 – 11 PM
PRICELunch menu: HK$680 – $980
Dinner menu: HK$1,580 – 1,980

Estro is one of the restaurants that we suggest if you want a more intimate fine dining experience. The warm tones of the interior really set the stage when we walked in.

It’s a bit of a classic with modern twists and interpretations – just like their dishes. Estro, which means inspiration, seems fairly true to its name.

We say this because of the chef’s creativity in mixing old and new. There were a lot of unique takes on well-known dishes in the menu… and we liked each one that we tried.

Every dish symbolized a memory from his past, we found out, making it quite personal and interesting. If you want fresh Italian cuisine unlike any other, you know where to go!

Pro tip:

  • We suggest trying their Gnocchetti, an aglio e olio with cime di rapa and Buffalo ricotta. Of course, you can never go wrong with an olive-oil-and-garlic base because really – who doesn’t love it?

4. TATE Dining Room

OPERATING HOURSSunday & Monday Closed
Tuesday – Thursday 6 PM – 12 AM
Friday & Saturday 12 PM – 4 PM, 6 PM – 12 AM
PRICE5 course lunch tasting menu: HK$1,480 + 10% per person

7 course dinner tasting menu: HK$2,480+ 10% per person

Two-Michelin-starred restaurant Tate reminded us of the beauty of mixing two cultures. Going on an interesting yet appealing route, this fine dining restaurant blends French and Chinese cuisine and makes it their own.

Although it’s not the first time someone has introduced an eclectic mix of dishes, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say Tate is now one of the frontrunners in the game.

Their interior probably isn’t as fancy as some others, but we appreciated the subdued color palette that’s easy on the eyes. It’s humble and subtle – as if they don’t want to make it front and center.

It mirrored their concept quite well because the female chef wanted a kind of femininity to be reflected by their elegant food. It’s the kind of femininity that doesn’t boast; rather, it lets its sophistication speak for itself.

That said, it could open your palette to a whole different world. It opened ours!

Pro tip:

  • From their dinner menu, the Ode to Tofu and Ode to Lamb definitely stood out. The Ode to Tofu has a truffle base with seasonal mushroom and mixed herbs. Meanwhile, the Ode to Lamb includes a Greffeuille Lamb Saddle Roulade mixed with crispy puff filled with delicious red tofu.

5. Caprice

WEBSITEhttps://www.fourseasons.com/hongkong/dining/restaurants/caprice/
ADDRESS8 Finance St, Central, Hong Kong
CONTACT DETAILS+852 3196 8888
OPERATING HOURSMonday – Sunday 12 PM – 2:30 PM, 6:30 PM – 9 PM

Another French restaurant, but certainly not one to blend in the background, is Caprice.

Caprice has received not one, not two, but an insane three Michelin stars. This, as culinary experts will tell you, is reserved only for the gods, which was the main cause of our piqued interest.

Naturally, we had high expectations going in and to our delight, they didn’t disappoint.

Located inside a five-star hotel called Four Seasons, the restaurant exudes extravagance. The display is a blend of whites, browns, blacks, and silvers – a classic palette that will never get old.

Their interior is not at all pretentious, though. It’s a mixture of modern, minimalist, and cosmopolitan, which contributed to our experience.

Anyway, they’re quite experimental with their dishes, so if you’re craving something really new and fresh, Caprice might be a way to go. If your tastes run more to familiar classics, though, it may be better to go elsewhere.

Yet even then, we think it’s wise to at least try Caprice once. It’s because they do such unique twists when it comes to already existing dishes that you may be caught off-guard by the magic they produce this way.

Pro tips:

  • We suggest trying out their signature dish. It’s a delicious caviar made with Alaskan King Crab, Crustacean Jelly, and Osciètre Prestige. It doesn’t look much, but it’s definitely something that shouldn’t be underestimated! We’re not ashamed to say we had seconds.
  • Aside from their tasty dishes, you should also check out their selections of cheese and wine. They’re some of the best in Hong Kong.

6. Amber

ADDRESS15 Queen’s Road Central, Central, Hong Kong
CONTACT DETAILS+852 2132 0066
OPERATING HOURSMonday – Sunday 12 PM – 1:45 PM, 6 PM – 12 AM

In the culinary world, Amber is known for being consistent with their efforts to maintain high quality food and service. We say that because for 14 consecutive years, they’ve been granted two Michelin stars.

It says a lot about their dedication to quality work that they’ve managed to keep those. This is why this French fine dining restaurant has garnered rightful attention from different parts of the globe.

Anyway, we like how their dishes are true to their French origin while also being modern and suitable for sophisticated palates.

Their efforts to make dishes more contemporary with hints of tradition truly make them standout. Moreover, we appreciate that their portions are just right!

We think this is what some fine dining restaurants miss. But since you’re paying for a lot, it’s expected that you feel satisfied afterwards, right?

Anyway, the restaurant itself is stunning. The simple neutral tones are sleek, warm, and inviting. It’s a great place for business meetings, anniversary dinners, and other intimate special occasions.

Pro tip:

  • From their dinner menu, we recommend their signature dishes option. Since it’s what they take pride in, we expected nothing but the best and it didn’t disappoint! It includes their Caviar Signature dish and Classic Uni.

7. Andō

DinnerTuesday & Wednesday: HK$16,000Thursday – Saturday: HK$21,000

The chef and founder of Andō, Agustin Balbi, was born in Argentina. Even though that’s where he grew up, he trained as a chef in Japan.

That’s why you will trace influences of Argentine and Japanese cuisine through Andō’s dishes. This type of culinary fusion isn’t really common, so you can trust that you’ll explore new flavors here that will tickle your tastebuds – and where better to do so than at a place with a Michelin star?

As for their interior, we liked its simplicity and boldness. Their use of materials like concrete and stone surprisingly made this fine dining restaurant feel luxurious and elegant.

Pro tips:

  • If you have a seafood allergy, this restaurant isn’t really your best bet. A lot of their dishes focus on shellfish and fish. Moreover, if you have dietary restrictions, they can’t cater to those who are vegan and vegetarian. They also don’t have options if you’re on a keto diet or if you have a dairy allergy.

8. VEA Restaurant

PRICE6 course menu: HK$1,880 + 10% service

8 course menu: HK$2,280 + 10% service

Vea Restaurant fuses Chinese and French cuisine to create delectable and creative dishes that are worthy of one Michelin star. If you want a more interactive and immersive dining experience where you can see how your food is made, you’ll also have a pleasant time here.

We say that because there are 25 counter seats where you can get a clear view of their open kitchen. Moreover, their highly trained bartenders, sommeliers, and chefs will often explain important details about your dish or drink.

It’s one of the few places where we went through a pleasant journey of learning more about our food and its origins. This is also perfect for curious foodies who like hearing stories about how the flavors came to be.

By the way, there’s also a private dining room if you prefer a more intimate setting. It has a wonderful view of Hong Kong’s skyline and the Victoria Harbour (best seen at nighttime).

Moving on to their dishes, we like how they used Chinese and French fusion to combine surprising ingredients.

For example, their Pyrenees Lamb is a dish with Yunnan Morels and Green Sichuan Peppercorn. It’s definitely an eclectic mix of flavors, but it works!

Pro tips:

  • You can ask for a vegetarian menu, but you have to do so one week in advance.
  • Their menu changes regularly, but as of writing, we recommend their Ma Yau. It’s fish made with razor clam and preserved turnip. It’s definitely savory and rich in taste.

9. BELON

Of course, we couldn’t help but recommend another French restaurant. After all, we like how their cuisine transforms fresh ingredients into something absolutely extraordinary!

Belon is no exception to that, obviously. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have received a well-deserved Michelin star.

Their menu sports several famous dishes, reimagined classics, and fresh creations. As such, at Belon, you can opt to try something new or be embraced by the familiarity of some of their dishes.

Pro tips:

  • You can never go wrong with the classics. We recommend their whole roasted chicken with petits pois à la française. It’s a simple dish that’s a guaranteed showstopper.
  • We also thoroughly enjoyed their M9 wagyu striploin with pomme aumônière and sauce barigoule. It has a surprising hint of sweetness, but just enough to still let you appreciate the wagyu’s flavor.

Okay, picture this: a farm-to-table fine dining experience with exciting dishes to fill your appetite. That’s Roganic.

They guarantee the freshest ingredients that are sustainable and organic. Who doesn’t love that? This is one of the things that helped them earn a Michelin star and rightly so.

Another thing that makes this contemporary British restaurant stand out is their exciting dishes with surprising flavors. The flavors are quite balanced, despite that – at least, in our experience here.

Pro tips:

  • If you have any dietary restrictions, be sure to inform them in advance so they can better prepare for you.
  • We recommend their full tasting menu to discover the best they have to offer. Each dish is exquisite and carefully curated. It was truly a great dining experience.
