Happy Hongkonger’s Pet-Lovers Pick the 5 Best Vet Clinics in Hong Kong

Happy Hongkonger’s Pet-Lovers Pick the 5 Best Vet Clinics in Hong Kong

  • Quality of Care: Our focus is on veterinary clinics renowned for their excellence in pet care, effective treatments, and personalized attention to each animal's needs.
  • Facility Cleanliness and Comfort: Cleanliness and comfort are paramount in our selection process, so we favored clinics with well-maintained facilities.
  • Range of Services: We value versatility, so we seek clinics offering a comprehensive range of services, including preventive care, diagnostics, surgery, dental care, and alternative therapies.
  • Compassion and Communication: We looked for clinics that guide pet owners through treatment options and follow-up care with understanding and patience.
  • Cost and Value: We assessed the affordability and value of veterinary services, preferring clinics with transparent pricing and a commitment to delivering high-quality care without premium costs.

The only thing stronger than fear is the love between a parent and the dog they said they didn’t want. Trust me – I was there when my mom rushed past me like a bolt of lightning when my dearest pup choked on a ball of hair (he’s fine now!).

Now, this got me thinking. That’s not a situation anyone ever wants another pet-lover to be in! In my pup’s case, great vets got him through the crisis – which told me that other people needed access to great vets too.

That’s why the Happy Hongkonger team came together to find the best vet clinics in Hong Kong. Many of us even tried these out with our respective pets, and at the end of the day, these were the ones we loved.

Pros

  • State-of-the-art facilities
  • Separate wards for different species
  • Available on weekends
  • Transparent with procedures

Cons

  • Limited number of veterinarians
  • Need to call for rates

Dr. Hugh’s Veterinary Hospital is one of the most famous animal clinics in Hong Kong for good reasons.

First of all, they have state-of-the-art facilities that will surprise you, seeing how clients often gush about their affordability.  On top of that, they have separate wards for different species of hospitalized animals in their care.

Despite their busy schedule, they always manage to maintain a high standard of service. While it can take a bit of time to get an appointment due to having only two veterinarians, we find the care consistent all throughout.

We do appreciate their weekend availability. As busy pet parents, finding time for vet visits during the week can be a challenge, so Dr. Hugh’s weekend hours are a lifesaver for us.

Perhaps the biggest draw for us was how honest their entire team is. We never got reports where they pushed for unnecessary tests or procedures, so we’re pretty satisfied with their transparency as a whole.

Pros

  • Comprehensive range of services
  • 24/7 availability
  • Professional staff
  • Regular updates over the phone

Cons

  • Inconsistency in veterinary appointments
  • Higher pricing compared to other clinics

What we love about Tai Wai Small Animal and Exotic Hospital is that they’re a sanctuary for pets of all kinds. The place offers a comprehensive range of services for furry, feathery, and scaly companions.

Not to mention they’re open 24/7, making them not only a go-to clinic for things like routine check-ups and specialized treatments but also for emergencies. Well, this is all thanks to their staff, who aren’t just professionals but also compassionate caregivers.

We were particularly impressed when we learned about a challenging case they handled involving a chinchilla. It’s really rare to come across vets that cater specialized cases, so this is a definite plus in our book.

Their communication is another thing we appreciate, and we personally vouch for it. Regular updates over the phone kept us informed and involved in our pet’s treatment (we took our 3-year-old Labrador for a check-up), and the peace of mind is just priceless.

What’s not worth the penny is that you might see veterinarians for follow-up appointments. We would have loved seeing the same vet all throughout, though we know that becomes the least priority when it’s a post-treatment check.

As for rates, while some may find them higher, we’ve always believed in the value of quality care. We felt like their prices matched their quality, so we weren’t too bothered paying on the higher end – at least, in our case.

Pros

  • Wide range of services for various pets
  • Specializes in small mammals
  • Comprehensive consultations
  • Daily availability for scheduling

Cons

  • By appointment only
  • Doesn’t extend services beyond regular hours

Acorn Veterinary Hospital is another top-tier destination for your beloved pets, whether they’re cats, dogs, rabbits, or other small mammals. From routine check-ups to advanced treatments like chemotherapy and MRI scans, they carry it all here.

Their patient care here is top-notch, reflected in numerous glowing reviews. Clients consistently commend the clinic for their kindness, patience, and ability to explain complex medical information in clear and understandable terms.

While there have been occasional remarks about rudeness at the front desk, our personal visits found the staff to be warm and welcoming. To us, this suggests that any lapses in customer service may be isolated incidents rather than a big glaring red flag.

Looking at the bright side, consultations here are excellent. The staff takes the time to thoroughly address pet owners’ concerns and provide detailed explanations about the needed treatments and procedures.

However, it’s important to note that the clinic operates by appointment only. Fortunately, they’re open every day, so you can still schedule for the next day if it’s not an emergency.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that despite their daily availability, the clinic doesn’t extend services beyond regular hours. This might not be the first clinic in your book if you ever need emergency vet services into the night.

Pros

  • 15+ professional vets
  • 24hr availability for emergencies
  • Convenient housecall service
  • Personalized care

Cons

  • Quite pricey

With a team of 15+ professional vets with over 20 years of collective experience, East Island has a ton of expertise working for it. Best of all, that expertise is available nearly 24/7.

Specifically, late-night emergencies can be addressed now thanks to his clinic’s round-the-clock availability. On top of that, they even have housecall services for busy furparents.

Through this, you can schedule a vet visit in the comfort of your home between 8:00 AM and  6:00 PM. According to the clients we spoke with, the quality of care is just as consistent as what they received at their clinic.

While their services may come at a premium, we’ve found the quality of care to be well worth the investment. From routine check-ups to specialized treatments like acupuncture and laser therapy, their track record is pretty much bulletproof – so far.

Pros

  • Comprehensive veterinary services
  • More than 20 in-house veterinarians
  • Professional and attentive staff
  • Expertise from consultations up to aftercare
  • Virtual consultations

Cons

  • Occasional long wait times
  • Inconsistent 24/7 availability

Pets Central covers everything from general medicine to specialized treatments like dentistry, oncology, and behavior medicine.

During our visits, we’ve always found the staff to be professional and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, we’ve also noticed occasional organizational issues at the clinic – like long wait times, which have sometimes caused frustration among clients.

Now, although Pets Central advertises 24/7 availability, feedback from clients suggests inconsistencies in this claim. Naturally, pet owners were disappointed, although this actually seems to be a pretty rare case.

Anyhow, a lot of the positive buzz about Pets Central revolves around how they’re experts at treatments and medical procedures. All past clients praised their vets for making their pets feel secure and happy during treatments.

Moreover, Pets Central also has an established online platform called Tele-Veterinary Medicine. It’s pretty much the pet version of Telemedicine.
