Pros
- Connected with the Omnicom Group
- Good variety of works displayed in their portfolio
- Has worked with notable and diverse clients
- Multi-awarded agency
Cons
- Can be expensive
- Lack of information on company website and social media platforms
Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) is one of the biggest advertising groups in the world. Its Hong Kong office even became one of the most awarded advertising agencies in the country.
Behind this success, is the agency’s promise to deliver unexpected works – and this is what caught our attention!
Like their project with McDonald’s Hong Kong, an out-of-the-box campaign where customers joined a heist to steal a box of 24-carat pure gold chicken McNuggets, we are in awe!
Aside from their creative and fun campaigns, we also admire DDB’s take on socially-impactful projects.
Another DDB campaign we’re fond of is its work with Hagar International, an anti-slavery NGO. This particular project led to record-breaking donations — exceeding their target by 550%.
To us, this mastery of delivering projects for commercial and non-commercial purposes is perhaps why DDB’s client list is so varied.
Having clients like McDonald’s Hong Kong, Hagar International, non-profit organisations, start-up businesses and more, only attest to DDB’s capability and versatility.
But if there’s something we don’t appreciate as much, it would be the lack of details on how a client would begin working with the agency.
While this is quickly fixed by corresponding with DDB HK, we still would’ve liked to see some semblance of the process on their website.

Pros
- Enjoys connections from parent organisation Vivendi
- Has partnerships with non-advertising agencies
- Has in-house annual market research
- Long history and work experience
Cons
- Can be expensive
- Doesn’t display a good variety of works in their portfolio
Havas Group has been operating for more than 50 years, in over 100 locations across the globe and with multiple subsidiaries to its name. One of which is Havas Creative, their advertising company.
Behind this feat is what we think of as their strongest suit: combining content, creativity, data, media, and technology. We also believe that these traits are perfectly demonstrated with their partnerships.
Unlike other ad agencies in Hong Kong, Havas has partnerships with film studios, gaming companies, live event organisers, music labels, TV networks, and video distribution platforms.
This diversity is immediately a plus in our books, especially with how these partnerships are made up of big names as well!
But, we think it’s impressive that Havas doesn’t solely rely on that advantage. Annually, Havas conducts research to gain insights from 350,000 people worldwide, 31 markets, 22 industries and 1,800 brands.
All these considered, we aren’t surprised that Havas Creative always lands notable clients, like Bayer and ICBC.
However, we can’t help but notice that most of the works on their portfolio are either AVPs or TVCs. Although we know that this isn’t the only type of advert they can produce, it would help first-time clients a lot if they were given a glimpse into other available options as well.

Pros
- Has worked with prominent clients
- Diverse portfolio
- Good variety of clients
- Long history and work experience
Cons
- Can be expensive
- Doesn’t have an official website for its local company
- Readily available information about the local company is rare
Founded in 1948, Ogilvy is easily the longest-operating agency on this list. Fortunately, all their years in the industry lead to a lot of good things.
One being their number of offices. As of writing, Ogilvy has currently 131 offices in 93 countries, building an award-winning global network of creatives, which is obviously a plus in our book.
Another advantage of all their years in the industry is the wide variety of clients Ogilvy has accumulated. Ogilvy Hong Kong alone has already worked with notable names like IKEA, KFC, Pizza Hut, Shangri-La, and more.
Aside from these commercial companies though, it’s nice to see Ogilvy HK also work with non-commercial organisations like they once did with Hong Kong Cleanup. To us, this shows the agency’s versatility regarding the clientele they cater to.
And we like that this versatility is reflected in their campaigns too — from their widely viral KFC ads, to their witty IKEA x Pizza Hut campaign, and to their socially-impactful and high-tech HK Cleanup ads.
However, we would have loved an official online presence for Ogilvy HK. Seeing an advertising agency of this level not having their own website doesn’t just seem ironic to us, but also impractical for potential clients.
If we didn’t have prior knowledge about how big of an agency Ogilvy is and if we didn’t dig deep enough, we wouldn’t have known that the agency offers full services. Which would be a shame, given that not all potential clients will do the same.
5. Saatchi & Saatchi Hong Kong

114 offices in 76 countries, over 6,500 staff, and more than 50 years in the business — these are just some of the numbers that attest to Saatchi & Saatchi’s success as one of the world’s biggest advertising companies.
But one particular number we liked to see was the 10 years that Saatchi & Saatchi has been working with HSBC.
Keeping a client for a long time is a good sign of an agency’s capabilities. So it was nice to see their long standing relationship with one of their biggest clients.
Aside from that, another thing we noticed is the effectiveness of the campaigns they made. For instance, the 2019 Ballet Daddy campaign Saatchi & Saatchi HK did for HSBC Life, which gained a sequel the following year.
We don’t often see ads get a sequel, but when they do, it’s a good indication that the initial campaign was successful. It leaves Saatchi HK in an even more appealing light as the agency offers full service, meaning they are responsible for everything in the campaigns they make.
And so we aren’t surprised to see the likes and variety of the clients they have bagged over the years — Canon, HSBC, Lexus, UNICEF, and more.
However, Saatchi & Saatchi HK doesn’t have its own website, just like Ogilvy HK. We found this really detrimental in getting to know the agency, their work, and what they could offer to clients.

Cons
- Less personalised services
- Can be expensive
Seeing as they’ve been ranked as Hong Kong’s most effective creative agency for three years in a row by the prestigious World Advertising Research Center (WARC), we definitely had to check this agency out!
We think that what makes TBWA\ stand out from the other advertising agencies in Hong Kong is its “Disruption” methodology. In particular, this method helps them identify strategies for the brands they work with.
It’s reassuring to know that through this targeted process, the team at TBWA\ will study the conventions of markets and consumers. In turn, they will develop a vision for your brand, and come up with an idea that aims to disrupt.
At first glance, this methodology may not seem too groundbreaking. But it was a pleasant surprise to see the clients they secured because of it.
We found it impressive that TWBA\ has worked with Adidas, Formula E, Lexus, McDonald’s, Standard Chartered Bank and more.
But aside from landing these big names, it was also reassuring to see these clients work regularly with the agency. For us, this retainability is a testament to their satisfying work that delivers results.
But we have to be honest — working with an agency of this level would require you to be financially capable. Hence, we haven’t found any of their works that represent smaller brands or businesses.
