Pros

  • Multiple locations with long operating hours
  • Wide range of offered items
  • One location has 5-storeys worth of art supplies

Cons

  • A bit expensive

CN Square is a stationery shop that has three locations, with one being one of the largest stores for art supplies in Hong Kong.

The most noteworthy feat of CN Square is that its primary location is a 5-storey building filled with art supplies, which felt like paradise for artists and students.

We also appreciate their long operating hours in all three locations, as they are open for 12 hours each day. We believe this is convenient, especially for students that need to rush to the store to get urgent project needs.

Another of CN Square’s strengths is its selection of art supplies. When you enter their stores, you will see thousands of materials ranging from basic pencils to advanced calligraphy pens and expensive paints.

The art supply store even sells equipment, such as printers and scanners.

However, if you’re looking for specific brands and items, you may want to inquire first because some art supplies are not always on hand.

It is also worth noting that the prices of these materials may be more expensive when compared to other stores.

Regardless, CN Square is a one-stop shop for everything you might need, which we believe makes up for the high price.

Pros

  • Lists item prices online
  • Specialises in lettering and graffiti supplies
  • Staff is knowledgeable and helpful

Cons

  • Short operating hours
  • Traditional art materials unavailable

Staying true to its name, Write the Future is a shop that sells graffiti- and calligraphy-related art supplies in Hong Kong.

This speciality is one of Write the Future’s strengths, as they have a wide range of spray paints, markers, brushes, pens, and equipment, such as belts and lids for spray cans.

We appreciate that the store has a stock of multiple brands, ranging from affordable ones for beginners to professional-level premium ones.

We also appreciate the fact that they have over a hundred different hues for their spray paints, which is perfect for those who enjoy making murals or painting miniatures.

However, this specialisation also becomes the company’s weakness in a way because those looking for traditional art media and supplies will find items inside the store of little use.

Another of Write the Future’s strengths is that it puts its prices online, so you can have an estimate of the products you wish to purchase before you even set foot in the shop.

Our visit to Write the Future was pleasant, as the shopkeepers assisted us and happily answered our queries. They seemed highly knowledgeable of the art supplies they have, as they easily suggested which brands and products would work well for specific projects.

Pros

  • Close to Sheung Wan MTR Station, exit E1
  • Reasonable prices
  • Wide range of traditional materials

Cons

  • Reports of rude staff
  • Store may be hard to find

Man Luen Choon is a traditional art supply store in Hong Kong. Although you will not find a wide range of common art materials in this store, Man Luen Choon is still worth visiting, especially if you wish to connect with Chinese culture.

One of the things we like about the art supply shop is its stock of Chinese tools for calligraphy and painting. Man Luen Choon offers brushes, inks, papers, and even silk of different qualities.

We also appreciate the store’s reasonable prices, which give curious beginners a chance to get affordable but decent-quality Chinese tools. However, more advanced hobbyists will also find Man Luen Choon valuable as they also stock up on premium quality items.

Another of the art supply store’s strengths is its accessible location, as Man Luen Choon is only a walk away from the Sheung Wan MTR Station. However, it can be hard to find the shop at first because it barely has any signage pointing to its location on the establishment’s second floor.

On our visit, we were assisted by a helpful shopkeep that gave us advice on which types of paper to use for specific projects. They also gave us advice on how to improve our Chinese calligraphy skills.

We asked other customers about their opinion regarding the store, and they shared the same sentiments. They say they liked the store’s

Pros

  • Reasonable prices
  • Wide range of tools and colouring materials
  • Helpful and knowledgeable shopkeep

Cons

  • Entrance is easy to miss

A shop with a straightforward name, Art Shop is an art supply store in Hong Kong that offers basic and advanced-level art materials.

One of the most noteworthy things about Art Shop is its range of items on sale. Aside from the usual paints, pens, and brushes, the store also offers different brands of markers, canvases, easels, foam boards, and other crafts materials.

We also enjoyed the variety of Copic markers, the standard marker used by numerous artists. Once you enter the shop, you will immediately notice the markers as they catch your eye with their myriad colours.

Another thing we like about Art Shop is its accessibility. The shop is open from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM on most days, allowing ample time to get what you need and explore the large store.

However, it is essential to note that the store’s entrance may be easy to miss. As such, we suggest keeping your eyes open for any landmark you may see online.

Our visit to Art Shop was a good experience, especially because of the owner who assisted us in looking for specific items and answered our questions patiently.

According to other customers we interviewed, the owner is always friendly and would give valuable advice on what item to get for projects.

Pros

  • Reasonable prices
  • Stocks up on hard-to-find brands
  • Convenient location

Cons

  • Limited specialised tools and art supplies

Kwong Yick Art & Design Materials is an art supply shop in Hong Kong that started back in 1989. Being one of the oldest art stores in the region, Kwong Yick has developed numerous strengths throughout the years that give them an advantage.

One of these strengths is the range and number of art materials in stock. Upon entering, you will be greeted by shelves holding markers of varying colours, paints, and even larger craft materials such as foam boards and cardboard.

In addition, we appreciate the rarity of some of the items that Kwong Yick has in stock.

For example, the store has a stock of Nicker paint, the brand used by the prominent animation studio Studio Ghibli. These paints are hard to find elsewhere in Hong Kong, so we were incredibly hyped when we encountered them here.

The items on sale were also reasonably priced, which is something we can’t complain about.

In addition to pricing and selection, another of Kwong Yick’s strengths is its helpful and patient staff. Even though we spent a long time looking around and searching for specific items, they still hovered around us and assisted us whenever we needed them.
