Top 5 Staycation Hotels in Hong Kong

Cost. We’ve listed down hotels from the ones with lower prices up to the more expensive hotels. Our selections were based on comparisons across the city and price-to-value ratios.

Location. We based this on each hotel’s proximity around things to do, restaurants, and transit.

Amenities. Hotels with well-rated amenities that would make a staycation worthwhile were top priority on our list.

Service. Above all, a staycation wouldn’t feel so rewarding when you have to deal with subpar service.

Pros

  • Good for inexpensive staycations
  • Bathroom and shower were spacious
  • Room came with bluetooth speakers and smart TV

Cons

  • No pools
  • No pets allowed

Page 148 is a boutique hotel that is conveniently located at Austin Road adjacent to Kowloon Cricket Club, perfectly nestled in its location displaying the urban scenery of Jordan.

The hotel’s design is a mix of vintage touches with mostly modern fixtures. We were received with upstanding hospitality by their staff, and they were helpful and kind as well.

We ordered breakfast the following morning and got the figs and cheese on toasted rye bread, although there aren’t that many to choose from on their menu, and the portion sizes are quite small.

Still, there are some really nice things about it.

One of our favourite things about Page 148, for example, is the sweeping view of Kowloon Cricket. Despite it being located in a bustling part of the city, we also liked how quiet the room was.

It isn’t really that big for a hotel, either, so a stay can feel pretty intimate.

Obviously, that comes with a downside: rooms are limited. If you’re looking to go here for a staycation, we would advise you to book ahead of time.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay, and the rooms look true to how they are being advertised. It’s a good place for an inexpensive staycation if you just want to get away from things for a short while and catch up on some sleep or get some time alone.

Pros

  • Beautifully designed hotel
  • Chic and cosy rooms
  • Very attentive staff

Cons

  • No swimming pools
  • Quite small for a hotel
  • Small food portions in restaurant

The Hari is a luxury hotel that’s good for short staycations because it’s located right in the heart of the city centre. It has an Italian restaurant and a Japanese eatery, along with a bar that looks out of a terrace.

We got to try out the Japanese restaurant, Zoku, and it was generally an okay experience with average service – but we did like their sushi, which was reasonably priced.

We like how accessible this hotel is since it’s only a 10-minute walk from the MTR station. We looked around and found that it’s surrounded by a lot of Michelin restaurants.

So if you’d like a more refined dinner, we suggest going around the area and trying out some of the restaurants nearby.

Nevertheless, the hotel itself is beautiful, with vivid digital lightboxes. The atmosphere exudes charm and elegance, and the king corner room was very comfortable and had a simple yet retro design.

Their roster of friendly staff was very accommodating and very attentive and informative during check-in and check-out. As a staple for every hotel, we were given hotel slippers and bathrobe, but these were more comfortable than most.

For a short staycation, our experience at The Hari was one worth remembering after one of the best sleep we had in so long.

Pros

  • Nice-value breakfast buffet
  • Outdoor pool
  • Rooms have wide windows
  • Good location
  • Lots of bars and restaurants nearby

Cons

  • Rooms are rather small

Eaton HK now sits at where the former Astor Theatre/Po Hing Theatre, Kowloon’s first cinema, was once built. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Jordan station.

The hotel itself is quite aged, given its history, and the room we got was rather small but decently apportioned. But from the window, we had a vast view of the city. It was a nice spot to just sit back and take in the view of the skyline.

The room was well-kept and very clean, and it came with all basic amenities. Every utility inside looked new and functioned well.

The hotel bar, other nearby watering holes, and event spaces were huge bonuses. If you’re here for a staycation and just want to wander around for a while, you’ll find Eaton HK’s location to be quite leisurable.

We liked the room and the bar, but the outdoor pool was one of the highlights during our stay at the Eaton HK. It’s a rooftop outdoor pool that looks so much like an oasis in a concrete jungle. The pool is located alongside their gym, too.

So if you want a quick dip after getting a workout in, you’ll be rightly accommodated. We definitely enjoyed this part of our stay.

Pros

  • Overall a beautiful hotel
  • Bar and restaurant have great choices in food and drinks
  • Beautiful swimming pool
  • Rooms are quite

Cons

  • A bit pricey

Nestled in the famous shopping and entertainment district of Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon Shangri-La is yet another one of our top choices for a staycation that merits an adventure when stepping out of the hotel.

In our room, we relished the vast space of the living area and the huge bedroom, and opening the curtains gives you a spectacular view of the Victoria harbour.

We hung out in the lounge for some afternoon tea, which was very lovely, as the present staff were very courteous and actively tended to our requests.

The breakfast was also a very pleasant experience, and the restaurant has excellent food as well. We definitely recommend trying out the crispy rice roll, barbecue pork bun, and their house wines.

To end our day, we tried out their cocktail hour, and we weren’t disappointed. For a staycation, the atmosphere of the hotel just entices you to relax and pamper yourself – and we can vouch for that.

Despite it being located in a bustling area, the room was pleasantly quiet, with only a soft buzzing coming from the outside.

Kowloon Shangri-La is more on the pricey side of hotels, but we think it’s worth a splurge for a staycation if you just want to take some time off and unwind.

Pros

  • 24-hour sauna, steam room, and massages
  • 6 restaurants and bars in the hotel
  • Heated outdoor pool
  • Strategic location

Cons

  • Quite dated for a hotel
  • More expensive than other hotels for a staycation

For a more elevated staycation experience, we decided to spend a few nights at the Conrad Hong Kong. A night in one of their standard rooms starts at HK$5,000 a night; HK$5,700 for the executive floor; and one to two bedroom suites at HK$7,000 to HK$41,000.

Looking out from our room, we had a dazzling view of the nearby mountain peaks. And from the other side of the hotel, you could see the harbour.

Locationwise, the Conrad Hong Kong is strategically located around nearby hotspots such as the tram, bus, railway, and ferry. Some restaurants and designer shops are also just a walk away from the hotel.

For avid foodies like us, we went ahead and enjoyed our time at their award-winning Chinese and French restaurants. Their Garden Cafe also has a wide variety of food with different cuisines.

Because it is a bit dated for a hotel, some of the amenities might be off-putting to some, but we thoroughly enjoyed our quick staycation at the hotel.

Even though it is quite old, we love how it adds to the hotel’s charm, like being in a nostalgic spy movie. So for a five-star staycation, we highly recommend the Conrad Hong Kong.
